Soon to be world tallest builiding.... Burj Dubai

Recently in the news it was stated that the construction of Burj Dubai has surpassed Taipei 101(currently the worlds tallest building). Once completed the building will be undisputed as the margin of height between its closest competitor is 300meters. Below is the comparison of height with 5 other previous record holders.

As you can see the only way to put back our Petronas Twin Tower as the world's tallest building is to eliminate the "twin" by stacking it up on top of the other. LoL but naw this would not happen... we should have built a single tower =(

Ancient bacteria that lives for 1/2 million years??

My post yesterday was about longevity. Coincidently todays news article that i came across highlighted that scientist have found ancient bacterias that are able to survive for half a million years! in harsh frozen climates and could possibly point to life on mars.

The bacteria has the ability to repair DNA genome degradation may be the key to prolonged or even everlasting life. This means that life's battery may be possible to be recharged! though it may not be possible in this lifetime but some time in the future perhaps, if the human race don't wipe out our own existence first that is.

Longevity = life's battery.

I have always wondered, why different creatures have different life spans. Some lives for merely a few days however some go on to live for hundreds of years. So i take tortoises as an example why do these creatures live for so long? what defines a tortoise? its slow and relaxed (due to the fact that tortoises do not have much natural predators thanks to its hard shell). In contrast is the humming bird know for its rapid beat of wings (up to 70 beats per second)leads a busy life as it requires to feed on huge amount of nectar which exceeds its own body weight in a day to sustain its high metabolism rate resulting in a short life. An active creature tends to strain and wear down the body meaning that repairs have to be done to the cells in the body which uses a lot of energy... if insufficient can cause dire consequences.

So to me it seems that longevity is like life's battery, take things slowly and relax... that way it drains your battery at a slower pace. Some what this true as it applies to non living beings as well such as motors and engines, the faster RPM that they produce consumes higher volume of petrol or electricity. It can be concluded that longevity depends on how well a being can efficiently use energy available to them.

Trees are the least active as they barely move therefore they go on to live for thousands of years!!! but what a boring life... I'll rather be a tortoise. Remember stress will shorten your life, so try to relax and throw your worries away.

Ok i have been tagged... so this is it

Ok i have no idea wat is a tag i assume its like the game we play as a kid when you are tagged you are "it" a.k.a the bad guy.... your job is to tag another person and pass the bad guy status to someone else. But in the blogger community the one tagged have to write a post on any of his or her previous blog topics which is divisible by 5 be it the 5th,10th,15th,... posting.

The topic i chose is my 15th post which is about my Sis's birthday which has passed so i will blog about her latest obsession .... Her brand new "Pink" Dell laptop. I don't know is it just me or companies like Dell and Sony are coming up with a choice of colors for their laptops breaking the norm of usually black laptops catered for executives. I guess humans these days are more trendy and likes to be different.

As far as we know the color pink are normally associated with women why is this? Amazingly the answer lies in human evolution according to time.com. Early humans are hunters and gatherers, man do the hunting and women gathers food mainly ripening berries and fruits. Along the years women develop the ability and tendency to detect red better. Thus such coloration such as pink will instantly attract them. For more in depth information of the research click on this link "Why girls like pink"

What is your driving force?

Do you sometimes feel that you are untouchable... having illusions of grandeur like nothing can hurt you or bring you down. Or at times feel so down that you are so vulnerable and have trouble picking yourself up.

Its at times like this that you take some time to reflect upon yourself, your soul, your very being and question your existence. Why are we here? what do we strive for? thoughts are nothing if you don't put it into action. But we are not always capable of doing things that we think is possible, creating a barrier that withholds our potential.

I once read a motivational article about breaking this barrier... with just one simple question "what is your driving force". What is it that keeps you going? be it your dreams, your family, your loved ones, or maybe simply yourself. So what ever it is thats reason enough to push yourself to the limits.

So try to get a quiet time for yourself and do a self reflection.

Persona..... ah a beautiful name

Our national car Proton has unveiled its newest addition to the family. This time with a few major changes and not only to its name Persona which give a more international standard compared to the Wira, Satria, Juara, Tiara, etc... which i think sounds pretty lame. This car would be the last resort for Proton to jump back in to the grab a share of the local car market, or die trying.....

I have to say although its pretty obvious that the body design is based on the Gen.2 hatchback, however there have been much accomplishment in the restyling which gives an air of elegance to it. So far the pictures and reviews are mostly positive whats left is to go to your local Proton showroom and get a feel of it or possibly a test drive. Personally for me i think all is well although there may be still room for some improvements in the interior which i think still looks quite "plastic". Here i present you some links with reviews and pictures of the "Persona"

The future of internet?

Again i was surfing the net for interesting news and this is an article i found. 75-year-old likely set Internet speed record thanks to her networking professional son. They have come up with a 40-gigabits-per-second fiber-optic connection along with a revolutionary new modulation technique. This would be the benchmark for the future of the internet!!! Imagine downloading a full length movie in 2 seconds... take that Streamyx its 40,000 times faster than what you are providing =p
